IV NUTRIENT INFUSIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are Intravenous (IV) nutrient infusions and Intramuscular (IM) injections?
IV nutrient infusions are a method of delivering vitamins, minerals and other nutrients directly into the bloodstream through a vein. This approach allows for rapid absorption, immediate bioavailability of these nutrients to the body, and bypasses the digestive system. An IM injection delivers nutrients directly into the muscle tissue. This allows for faster absorption into the bloodstream while bypassing the digestive system. Common sites for injection include upper arm, thigh and buttocks.
  • Why don’t you state the ingredients in the infusions?
Due to New Zealand legislations (Medicines Act 1981), we are prohibited from promoting specific ingredients or health benefits. This regulation ensures that information provided is compliant with legal standards. We source all our products from reputable suppliers in New Zealand and Australia ensuring they adhere to strict GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards. Upon booking, we will contact you to discuss your health concerns and tailor a specific infusion plan with more detailed ingredient information.
  • What are the benefits of IV nutrient infusions offered by The Wellness Nurse?
IV nutrient infusions may provide a variety of health benefits by delivering essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients directly into the bloodstream. This method promotes maximum absorption and immediate availability to the body’s cells. Some key benefits can include increased energy levels, enhanced immune function, improved hydration, faster recovery from workouts or illness, and alleviation of chronic fatigue and stress. Additionally, our tailored IV therapies can aid in detoxification, improve mental clarity, and promote overall wellness. At The Wellness Nurse, we customize each infusion to meet the unique needs of our clients, ensuring optimal health outcomes.
  • Won’t I just ‘wee out’ the nutrients?
IV nutrient therapy provides a highly efficient way to deliver essential vitamins and minerals directly into your bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system where much of the nutrient absorption is lost due to factors like gut disturbances, malabsorption issues or medication effects. Your body uses what it needs immediately, allowing cells to be replenished and support more effectively. While any excess nutrients are naturally excreted, IV therapy promotes optimal benefit, giving you faster and more noticeable results. Some infusions are given as higher doses, this can allow antioxidants to effectively reduce inflammation. Beyond replenishing nutrients, these infusions may serve a therapeutic role, helping rebalance and support overall wellness.
  • What is the difference between oral supplements and IV nutrient infusions?
The key difference between oral supplements and IV nutrient infusions is in their absorption and efficacy. Oral supplements are ingested and absorbed through the digestive system, which means they can be affected by factors like digestion inefficiencies, enzyme interactions, and overall gut health. As a result, only a portion of the nutrients may be absorbed into the bloodstream. Multiple pills are needed consistently to get to the required dosages which can be challenging to maintain. In contrast, IV nutrient infusions deliver vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients directly into your bloodstream via intravenous administration. This method can promote almost 100% bioavailability, meaning your body can utilize the nutrients immediately and more effectively. IV nutrient infusions are especially beneficial for those who need rapid nutrient replenishment or have conditions that impair nutrient absorption in the gut. At The Wellness Nurse, our professional team will assess your individual needs and recommend the best course of action to enhance your health, whether through oral supplements, IV nutrient infusions, or a combination of both.
  • How long does an infusion take?
The duration of an infusion typically ranges from 1 - 2 hours, depending on the specific nutrients being administered and the individual’s needs.
  • Is the procedure painful?
Most clients report minimal discomfort, akin to having blood drawn. The insertion of the IV catheter may cause a brief sting, but the overall experience is generally well tolerated. We have the option of an anaesthetic numbing cream for those worried about needle pain or feeling anxious about needles.
  • Are there any side effects?
IV nutrient infusions/IM injections are generally safe, but potential side effects include: Mild swelling, pain, redness or bruising at the injection site Allergic reactions (rare) Phlebitis (inflammation of the vein) Headaches Nausea or vomiting (fluid infused too quickly) Dizziness or light-headedness Fluid overload (fluid infused too quickly) symptoms include: shortness of breath, swelling, and increased heart rate Muscle stiffness or soreness (after IM injections) Lumps or hardening at injection site (usually resolves over time) The Wellness Nurse has a strict safety policy (located on the website). We offer regular check-ins to support and guide you through your health journey, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
  • How often can I receive IV nutrient infusions?
The frequency of infusions depends on individual health goals and needs. Some may benefit from weekly treatments, while others may require them monthly. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
  • Do I need a doctor’s prescription for IV nutrient infusions?
All our vitamins, minerals and products are prescribed by our oversight doctor after the nurse has carefully reviewed each client’s health history and desired outcome. There is an annual doctor's prescription fee of $60 for each client.
  • Who should consider IV nutrient infusions?
IV nutrient infusions offered by The Wellness Nurse are a valuable option for a wide range of individuals looking to enhance their overall health and well-being. These infusions can be particularly beneficial for those with nutrient deficiencies, athletes seeking rapid recovery, individuals dealing with chronic fatigue, and those needing an immune system boost. Additionally, if you suffer from conditions that impair nutrient absorption such as Crohn's disease or coeliac disease, or if you’re recovering from surgery or illness, you may find significant benefits from IV nutrient therapy.
  • Can anyone receive IV nutrient infusions at The Wellness Nurse?
While we focus on personalized care, IV nutrient infusions are not suitable for everyone. Our registered nurse will assess your health and medical history to ensure safety. Conditions like kidney problems, heart disease, or allergies may contraindicate use. We cannot do infusions on pregnant women. Breastfeeding women should consult their primary healthcare provider first. For eligibility questions or concerns, schedule a complimentary phone consultation with our experienced nurse.
  • What can I expect during the infusion?
During your IV nutrient infusion, you can expect a relaxed and friendly experience. We’ll begin with a brief chat to confirm a few details and discuss any last-minute questions you may have. After you get comfortable, a small catheter (IV) will be placed in your arm – its quick and just a slight pinch. The infusion itself takes approximately 1-2 hours, allowing you to sit back and relax. We’ll check in with you during the process and provide aftercare advice once it’s done. Just remember to stay hydrated and take it easy afterwards. Our goal is to ensure you feel comfortable and supported during your treatment.
  • How do I prepare for an IV nutrient infusion?
We recommend staying well hydrated before your appointment and have some healthy snacks handy. You will be sitting comfortably for up to an hour and a half (some treatments are longer) so being prepared makes for a seamless treatment. Be sure to let us know of any changes to your health history or new medications/supplements before your appointment.
